eBay launch Christmas ‘shop the world’ campaign

by Emily Waddecar

Back to the latest news

eBay have taken the plunge and launched their first global campaign ‘Shop the world’ this October, just ahead of the swiftly approaching Christmas season.

The essence of the campaign shows people’s desire for something they may have seen out and about or on television, hence ‘Shop the world’, and the simplicity of turning their ‘wish list’ into reality, through the power of impulse buying. The great feature of the advert is that it relates to every eBay buyer and not just one age or genre.

CMO of eBay Richelle Parham states: “We’ve never gone out to the customer with one single message at the same time. All of the creative across markets is the same creative concept, the same key message,” said Ms. Parham. “This is the tightest connection [we’ve had] from marketing efforts to the product experience.”

Although October may seem too early for some, Christmas shopping for a lot of consumers starts in August. Last year over 71 million people used ‘Christmas’ as their keyword search from August to December.

eBay also saw a huge amount of ‘Christmas’ keyword searches with a whopping 2 million of these being searched just a week before Christmas Day 2013. ‘Monopoly’ was a popular old favourite with 30,000 searches taking place in the last week before Christmas.

It’s not too late to capitalise on the Christmas trading period and it’s easier than you may think! Here’s a step-by-step guide to make sure you stay in control this Christmas:
– Set-up an eBay shop. It’s quick and simple to do
– Support your shop with channel management software from an eBay Certified provider to make listing and delisting items effortless
– Implement a back office software solution, to stay in complete control of purchasing, stock control and order processing
– Consider an outsourced fulfilment provider to pick, pick and dispatch your goods for 5* customer service. With per item or per order charges it’s more affordable than you might expect

Come on, get started and see how much extra trade you could generate this Christmas.
